Our Family started our vacation weekends near Grand Lake in an historic, one-room trapper’s cabin. As our family grew, it became necessary to find a larger space. The answer: keep the charisma of a log cabin, but add the comforts of large rooms, modern baths and kitchen, and sunny windows featuring dramatic views.

We recently built The Seven Acre Wood which features a three-story log home with forest views from every window. The expansive deck is oriented to capture forest, lake and mountain vistas. Its sunny east-face is the perfect place to linger over morning coffee, or a glass of wine in the evening to savor the alpenglow left by a sensational Colorado sunset.

The inside of our  home merges the coziness of a log cabin with modern comfort. Generously proportioned bedrooms and baths, and a soaring two-story great room with stone fireplace which comfortably accommodates families or couples. The fully-equipped kitchen features and island/breakfast bar.

Sleep late in the quiet of rooms sound-insulated with log walls, or rise early and bask in the sun washed kitchen, great room and loft.
